FAQ Frequently Asked
Questions.
==============================

Everything you need to know about corn maze design and cutting.

Pricing & Services
----------------------

### How much does a corn maze cost?

Most of our projects are in the $3k-$5k range. Maze size and travel have the biggest impact on pricing. See the [corn maze cost page](https://cornmazedesign.com/corn-maze-cost) for more detail, or [contact me](https://cornmazedesign.com/contact) for a custom quote.

### How do I know if a corn maze is worth it for my farm?

That depends on your field, your customer base, and what else you already do in the fall. The [worth-it page](https://cornmazedesign.com/is-a-corn-maze-worth-it-for-your-farm) walks through the simple math and the bigger picture.

### What's included in your service?

Every project includes custom maze design, the initial GPS-guided cut, and a maze map you can use for visitors. After the first cut, you will need to maintain the trails with a zero-turn mower a few times before opening.

### Do you offer design-only or cutting-only services?

No. I offer a complete package that includes both design and cutting, which helps ensure the finished maze translates accurately to your field.

### What areas do you usually serve?

I am based in south central Virginia, and most of my work is in Virginia. North Carolina is usually the next closest fit.

Timeline & Process
----------------------

### When should I contact you?

The earlier in the year, the better. I can help you think through planting details and timing so your maze has the best chance of staying green longer into the fall season. See [when to plant a corn maze](https://cornmazedesign.com/when-to-plant-a-corn-maze) for more on that timeline.

### What's the design process like?

Once your corn is planted, I'll get an outline of your field. Then I design your maze digitally and send it to you for review before cutting. We'll work through it together until the design feels right for your farm.

### When is the best time to cut the maze?

The ideal cutting window is when the corn is between 18 and 36 inches tall. This gives the best results for clean trails and healthy corn walls. For more detail, see [when to cut a corn maze](https://cornmazedesign.com/when-to-cut-a-corn-maze).

### How long does cutting take?

Typically several hours per acre, depending on how tall the corn is and the complexity of the design.

Field Requirements
------------------

### How big does my field need to be?

Three acres is about the low end for a full corn maze, and four to eight acres is a really good range for most farms. See the [acreage page](https://cornmazedesign.com/how-many-acres-for-a-corn-maze) for more detail, or reach out if you are thinking about a kids maze or mini maze.

### What type of corn works best?

A drought-resistant field corn is usually a good choice. I also recommend Roundup Ready varieties so you can spray the trails and keep them clean throughout the season. See [best corn for a corn maze](https://cornmazedesign.com/best-corn-for-a-corn-maze) for more detail, including sorghum and other similar crop options.

### Do I need to prepare anything before you arrive?

Just have your field planted. We'll discuss the details via text or email beforehand to make sure everything is ready for cutting day.

Design
------

### Can you create a custom design with our logo or theme?

Yes. All of my designs are custom. For mazes under six acres, design options are more limited because of space, but there is still room to create something distinct for your farm.

### Do you have existing designs to choose from?

No, every maze I create is designed from scratch specifically for your field and your vision. No templates or repeats.

### How detailed can the design be?

Fairly detailed, but there are some practical constraints. Paths are about six feet wide with roughly sixteen feet of corn between them to keep walls dense. We'll work within these parameters to create the most detailed design possible for your space.

GPS & Cutting
-----------------

### How does GPS-guided cutting work?

I use a zero-turn mower equipped with GPS and a computer that displays your maze design. I follow the GPS guidance carefully so the finished cut stays true to the plan.

### How accurate is the cutting?

The GPS is accurate to within several feet. There is always some natural variation in the corn itself, but the end result is a clean, accurate representation of the design.

Maintenance
-----------

### Do you help with maze maintenance after cutting?

I handle the initial cutting, but ongoing maintenance is up to you. I recommend mowing the trails several times with a zero-turn mower before you open. For extra-clean trails, you can spray with Roundup about three to four weeks before opening.

### Can paths be modified after cutting?

Yes, but that will be up to you. A machete or similar tool works well for minor adjustments to the trails.
